Adamant Entertainment is a sole proprietorship, plus freelancers. The company is run by me, Gareth-Michael Skarka, and when I’m incapacitated, so is the company. The picture at left is a shot taken by my wife a couple of weeks ago — I was unexpectedly hospitalized with a sudden infection.
At the risk of giving you too much information, it was serious. A severe case of diverticulitis which resulted in the removal of 12 inches of my colon, and a secondary severe abdominal abscess, which they thankfully caught before it burst (which, I am told, would have likely resulted in severe enough peritonitis to kill me). This resulted in a 9-day hospital stay, and an estimated 6-8 week recovery period involving at-home nurse care and an eventual secondary operation to repair the colon (another week-long stay in the hospital). In short — it’s bad.
As such, I cannot run the day-to-day operations of the business, and so I’m putting Adamant on hiatus until I’m fully recovered.
Let me be perfectly clear: WE ARE NOT GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. I am simply hitting the “pause” button while I heal. I expect to get Adamant back on track this Spring.
I know that there are folks who have pre-orders for Adamant product, and those will be honored — they’re just delayed while I handle the business of getting well.
Thank you for your patience, and I’ll see you in May or June.
Get well soon, GM! Your adventure isn’t over yet.
Ouch! My father had a terrible bout of that a few years back. Hope you heal fast and well, Gareth. Life trumps business any day.
Wow – I’m so sorry! You’re such a creative guy, I hate to see you taken away from the fertile fields of Adamant where those seeds of imagination grow into reality. I hope you heal, too – and if you wouldn’t find it offensive, I’ll even say a prayer for you…
🙂
Ouww!!! Take care and get well soon. That’s the truly important thing
I just came across a link to your post via the Savage Worlds G+ community. I hope this far after your post that you are at whatever mark the doctors expected for your recovery.
Vickey
I feel your pain as I had the same thing happen to me (minus the abcess). Lost a good chunk of my colon and took about 12 weeks for me to heal up. Luckily NY State had some temporary disability funds as I was unemployed at the time and couldn’t collect unemployment while I was laid up. Get well soon!!
