1930s Scotland — Gregor McLogan, an old friend of the heroes, recently has come into an inheritance: Penlogan House, an estate in Kinross, across the water from his home in Edinburgh. Gregor’s great-uncle, Connor McLogan has officially been declared deceased, and the estate has now passed to Gregor.
Connor had something of a reclusive nature and a poor reputation among the McLogan family — Accusations of madness and the “McLogan Curse” ran rampant, and Penlogan House was left to wrack and ruin while he resided there.
Gregor has asked the heroes to come to Scotland and help him investigate the dilapidated house — he claims that his great-uncle supposedly made ground-breaking scientific discoveries in metaphysics: the kind of discovery that would make splitting the atom seem a footnote in history! Gregor believes that these secrets can be found at Penlogan House — but his inquiries appear to have brought the attention of some unsavory types, whom he believes are following him.
